NATIONAL PARK THE BIESBOSCH
The Biesbosch is the largest freshwater tidal area in Europe. Whereas in earlier times the national park was characterized by agriculture, nowadays the area is mainly a nature and recreation area. The Biesbosch is located in the vicinity of Hotel Ridderkerk. A beautiful location for a relaxing day out!
Tides
Through the Nieuwe Waterweg canal, De Biesbosch is in open connection with the sea. The tides of the sea cause fresh water to rise and fall in the river area of the Biesbosch. Water levels can sometimes change so much in some places in the area that hikers can get their feet wet in spring and autumn.

With its tides, lush willow forests, grassland polders and numerous different animals, De Biesbosch is perfect for a day out. One of the park's most famous residents is the beaver. More than 300 of them live there! You can even go on a special beaver safari with a tour boat. Highly recommended for the kids!
